Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you register as a buyer or seller, we collect your name, email address, and phone number. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from your Google account.

Store and product information (sellers). Sellers provide a store name, address/location, product listings, and product photos.

Usage information. We record basic activity such as product views and seller contact events, so sellers can see engagement with their listings. This data is automatically deleted after 12 months.

Payment information (sellers). Monthly store rent payments are processed by Paystack, our third-party payment processor. We do not store your card details. Paystack handles and secures all payment data directly.

We do not collect your precise device location (GPS).MarketRoom does not use location services to find sellers "near you". Browsing and search are based on categories and seller-provided store locations, not your device's location.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information above to:

• Create and manage your account
• Let buyers browse products and contact sellers
• Process seller store-rent payments and referral earnings
• Send account-related emails (OTP verification, password resets, receipts)
• Send optional product updates and reminders where you've consented (opt out anytime via Unsubscribe)
• Show sellers basic engagement data for their listings
• Maintain the security and integrity of the Service

3. How Buyers and Sellers Connect

MarketRoom does not process orders or hold funds between buyers and sellers. When a buyer contacts a seller, the conversation happens directly over WhatsApp, outside of MarketRoom. We are not a party to, and do not monitor, those conversations.

4. Third-Party Services

We share limited data with the following service providers, solely to operate MarketRoom:

• Paystack processes seller store rent payments
• Resend sends transactional emails (OTP, receipts, notifications)
• Cloudinary stores and delivers product and profile images
• MongoDB Atlas hosts our database
• Google Sign-In handles optional account authentication

These providers only receive the data necessary to perform their function and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

4b. Email Measurement

We use Resend to send transactional and lifecycle emails (account alerts, trial reminders, dormancy picks). To measure engagement, we track opens via a 1px pixel served from links.marketroomng.com and clicks via tracked link redirects. This tells us aggregate open and click rates (see Resend docs) so we can improve our messaging. Every marketing email includes an Unsubscribe link and a Manage preferences link. You can opt out of marketing or product updates at any time without affecting essential account emails.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on MongoDB Atlas. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. Access to accounts is protected using secure tokens (JWT). While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

6. Data Retention

We retain account data for as long as your account is active. Usage/analytics data (views, contact events) is automatically deleted after 12 months. If you delete your account, we deactivate it and remove personal data within a reasonable period, except where we're required to retain records for legal or financial purposes (e.g. payment records).

7. Your Rights

You can:

• Access or update your account information at any time from within the app
• Request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us
• Withdraw consent for optional features (e.g. Google Sign-In) by using email/password login instead
• Opt out of marketing and product-update emails via the Unsubscribe link in any email, or Sellers via dashboard Settings → Notifications and Buyers via Profile → Notifications

8. Children's Privacy

MarketRoom is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the app.
